An Introduction to Batla House.
Batla house is a neighborhood in jamia nagar spread over 14 acres in South Delhi whose residents include professors , teachers, doctors, govt, officials, corporate professionals, businessman and students are living here.
While jamia nagar’s 3.75 lakh residents nearly 90% are Muslims, aspire for a better education and a better life.
The infrastructure and facilities in the area have failed to keep pace.
In the beginning, there was only a village called Okhla.
During 1935, Development started with the laying of foundation of a new building for Jamia University, earlier housed in Karol Bagh.
The area gradually evolved as a sanctuary for Muslims seeking education, employment, and to peruse a better life.
Many family from Old Delhi moved here for gaining opportunities.
While the neighborhood has mirrored the pattern of development happening in any big city, there are certain uncomfortable reasons behind its extraordinary growth.
According to one of the old dweller in the neighborhood, the boom started after 1984 anti-sikh riots in Delhi when Muslims noticed that most of the atrocities happened in areas where Sikh were not living together.
The Batla House area began to have a boom post Babri Mosque demolition issue when people started coming to this area even from Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad .
So they started shifting to place like Jamia Nagar where comfort could be found in numbers.
